Gav’s EV Conversion – 19 – Frequently Asked Questions

Visit www.EVsecrets.com & grab my new EV Conversion book + video package! Now that the conversion’s complete I thought I’d tackle all those questions I get through my inbox. The questions answered in this video are the most common I get asked on almost a daily basis by people at supermarkets, on the street or by email. I’m sure many of you have the same questions too, so on with the video! For all the other technical questions, check out my FAQ page or my Tech Specs page at www.KiwiEV.com I admit, it’s not a terribly exciting video compared to the others, but it’s important for anyone using my conversion as a platform for their own.

a long distance you can stop to gas station and find a plug in there if you use one charger installed in the car and charge it :)

I know this is a long time coming and you may not even read your comments any more but I have had an idea for a long time about adding a 7200 watt belt driven generator head and placing it in with the motor to recharge the car as it drives through pulleys and belt drives but not sure of the particulars as to how you could make that work but what i was thinking is about something that would be drivven by a gear off of the end of the shaft that comes out of the oposing end of the electric motor.

18 amps on the new charger. This really has me stoked, my uncle is a mechanic. If I can build one for under $10 000 I might just get a loan and do it. New question: Have you kept track of your battery health since you made it. When do you expect to need new batteries?

What are the possibilities for larger chargers? How much biggger than the small 3.5a are we talking?

@cant7think7clearly How does that compare to your insurance rate on a gas car?
I know I pay about $2000 a year for full insurance in Canada, but I’m young. I’m wondering if insurance dropped alot.

I usually never let my flooded lead battery pack go below 50% charge…people with EV’s seem to differ with opinions relating to the longevity of the battery pack versus depth of discharge. Your thoughts? I would imagine also you get better range in warmer weather?

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, merely converted.
